Very easy. You have a sprained ankle. It could be broke or bone chipped but unlikely, only x-rays tell for sure. But assuming it's a bad sprain and not a break there are things you can do.
First get Mr. Miyagi to lay hands on you(sorry couldn't resist).
If he isn't available it very important to keep elevated and iced down for the rest of the night into tomorrow morning. Once you have the swelling under control, and not before, you can start alternating between heat and cold.
Don't listen to these knuckleheads who say rub some dirt on it and get back in there on it. No No No.
Stay off it as much as possible. If you have to go somewhere, say work, get a soft cast or boot(remember Tom Brady and his boot) or a wrap.
Get on a anti-inflammatory. The most popular is napraxin(or naprisin). No prescription no prob, it's the main ingrediant in Aleve. Take at least 500mg twice a day, you can take up to twice that amount no prob but it can upset your stomach so watch out before bed time.
Electric stimulation helps as well as magnetics. Your chiropractor should have these. Magnetic braclets and necklaces are available at any sporting goods store. These help more long term but still are helpful.
See an accupuntorist. They use other methods, not just needles for trauma such as electric stimuli and infra red.
When the swelling is down use a whirlpool or sauna but not before as this can make the inflamation worse.
Day of use NO ICE. Keep it warm and loose and a really good tape job; bite your lip and kick some ***.
Profesional athletes have treatment every day to ready for the next week or game. Sometimes even they can not answer the bell. I hope you can.
Stay off it unless it's necessary. Save it for game day unless you are doing treatment(or work).
If I can think of anything else will let you know.

Practice and your leg will get better. Practice going and walking on your leg every so often.

go to the doctor, and do what he says, alo put ice on it, keep the swelling down.

Ice is very important .. but if you immobilize it, it will take longer to heal.. Try after 24 hours of ice a combination of ice 20 minutes and hot towel for 20 minutes repeat for about 1 hour and 1/2. It will bring the swollen down and make it easier to move.. at the meet have an coach tape it.

A doctor would be my first suggestion but if not; It sounds like a pretty good ankle sprain. Ice for the first 48 hours and keep it elevated. Then heat, I doubt if a doctor would want you competing this soon after such an injury. I've had many ankle sprains and they take a while to heal. Better to miss this one then possibly due permanent damage
