This drug is used to treat type 2 diabetes. While it is common knowledege this drug does help to loose weight, that is listed as a side effect. This drug has not been approved by the FDA as a weight loss drug, and your doc should NOT be using it that way.
I am a type 1.5 diabetec, meaning that I was only a type 1(my body does not produce insulin, so I take it by pump), and type 2(because it runs in my family)(type 2 is when your body rejects the insulin your body produces). So in other words I take both medications to control the disease.
Unless you have been diagnosed a type 2 diabetic you should NOT be taking this drug.
The feeling of the shakes, feeling flushed, sweaty, all around "not with it" are all symptoms of low blood sugar. I would recommend purchasing a glucometer to test your blood sugar while taking this drug. You should test it especially when you feel that way, but you should test it every day twice a day and the normal blood sugar range is between 80-110. anything below that scope ...call your doc and stop taking that drug.
At the onset of those sypmtoms drink juice, eat a snack that contains at least 15 carbs. This will raise your blood sugar level and you will feel better.
The stomach cramps and diarrhea are all side effects of the drug too..so unfortunatley, I can't help you there. If you choose to continue to take the drug, they will subside. It sounds to me like the med is simply making your blood sugar low...and that is it's job..to lower blood sugar. Not weight loss.

Yes you might have a adverse reaction to the drug. Metformins usually side affects include diarrhea and your suppose to take the drug right before you eat or when your eating. CALL YOUR DOC

Quit the drug and try exercise.
