I have been drinking hard alchohol since noon and I am still wide awake. What!


Question: I thought for sure it would help me get some sleep, but I am wired. I have anxiety and I got to get some sleep tonite. What can I do?

Nonsense to those suggesting you are an alcoholic. Alcohol simply has different actions for different people, particularly those who are emotionally agitated, for what ever reason.

In most people, alcohol is a central nervous system depressant in large quantities, but it can actually increase anxiety in many people, because, by lowering the brain's inhibition levels, and giving the mind free rein, it can allow anxiety or sadness to overwhelm other sensibilities. Thus, in many cases, the "crying drunk."

The problem for people who have been drinking for several hours, is that it is not safe to add other medications to large intakes of alcohol. Not even OTC remedies! You have to struggle against urges or suggestions to do so, because, with lowered inhibition, it can seem like a good idea to do so, at the time.

The best thing to do might be to take a warm bath, and drink some milk. The milk can have a soporific effect, as can the bath. Eat some food, if you haven't eaten in the last 4 hours - but don't overeat. Drunks with full stomachs aspirate easily when they fall asleep, because they burp up stomach contents, and their choke reflexes are delayed, so they often inhale stomach contents.

Go to bed, instead of sitting at the computer.

Alcohol has different effects on people. Take some sleeping pills or cough medicine if you wanna go to bed.

are you drinking red bull and vodka?that might be it.
here's a tip-get some weed.it will knock you out.

Well if you are drunk it wont help you fall asleep only if you were like like drinking causually

first off thats not healthly and cant be good for your body. second if you cant get to sleep try smoking a spliff, read a book, or take sleeping pills, but dont drink that much

your tolerance is high.get some thera-flu then put it in hot water and sip it you will crash out

i dont know whats wrong with you but sometimes smoking something helps...its usually green and sticky and can be rolled or smoked through a pipe...usually makes most people fall asleep

Drink some coffee. It will counteract the alchohol.

layoff the crack pipe for awhile and the alcohol will kick in.

Well firstly, I know how you feel. You think, right lets get knackered and then i will get sleep.
practically alcohol is not the best way to get to sleep. sadly =]
I think that if you needed sleep that you need to either take a rest, if your body wants to sleep, it will. Otherwise sleeping pills. But make sure you dont take pills now ! You will be verrrry verrrrrry ill.
Okay now, the reason you cant sleep is because obviously your body doesnt want to, either that or the amount of alcohol is still processing through your body and hasnt hit you. Dont worry dude, tomorrow you will be F ** ked. lol.
Well i think the anxiety would help if you got some sleep, you should be able to sleep tonight, if not read a book until you need to. Im not sure how old you are, but if you have school or work tomorrow then you can maybe take the day off and sleep in.
Make SURE YOU DO NOT TAKE ANY PILLS FOR THE NEXT TWENTY FOUR HOURS. This include Panadol or Asprin, and especially sleeping pills.
You will be fine, and this has happened to me before, whatever you are worried about, try to not think about it, and enjoy your life. =]

Try sleeping pills and stop drinking.

Don't take sleeping pills specially if you've been drinking, that won't turn out good. Just lay down, and close your eyes eventually you'll fall asleep.

Probably nothing is wrong with you. Hard liquor isn't as effective a sleep aid as you'd expect. Beer is much better for that purpose (partly because hops are closely related to marijuana, though they lack the active ingredient). Wine is pretty good too. But I find that hard liquor doesn't make me sleepy nearly like other beverages.

BUT, a lot of it depends on your state of mind. If you're agitated when you start drinking, and agitated as you drink, you might find yourself a very wide-awake drunk. As for what you cant do *tonight*, the only thing I can think of is to put on some soothing music (Enya works very well) in a dark room, and lie down and try to think peaceful thoughts. Try to put what's bothering you into perspective. Sometimes I have to go so far as to remember that in a billion years everything I've ever known here on Earth will be gone, so nothing I do today or tomorrow will ultimately matter on that time scale.

Forget about it and try to sleep. Next time try warm milk instead.
