Do all nighters cause any kind of brain malfunction?!

Question: I constantly pull all nighters. Don't get me wrong I LOVE sleep!! I just go to bed, 11:30 p.m. and I just lay in bed and hum. I don't know what it is, its like I distract myself or something. I have no lights on, no music, no animals (or people) in my bed, I turn my cell phone off and I STILL can't sleep. I pull all nighters almost 3 or 4 times a week, this can't be healthy for me. I don't know what to do, I've taken PM medicines but it doesn't help!! ahhh!

I've found that going without sleep makes it hard to learn new things. After pulling all-nighters in college, I found that I could not absorb new information after a certain point.

Have you tried melatonin? It's a synthetic version of a hormone that the body produces when it's time to sleep (usually when it gets dark). 1mg - 3mg usually works. 3mg usually knocks me out. 1mg is what I prefer when it feels like I may not get to sleep on occasion.

Perhaps you might try some exercise. I've found that usually makes me sleep.

im usually up all weekend but thats due to extra curricular activities - its not done me too much harm in 10 years

You're a night owl. If it doesn't bother you about getting no sleep, then do something positive in your waking hours. Write a novel, pen a number one song, compose a speech to the United Nations. Just like I dream of doing! Either that, or work a lot harder during the day and get so tired you'll need to sleep at night.
