Am I wrong using the disabled parking bay?!

Question: I am only 32 and have osteoarthritis in my knee and was issued an ACROD parking permit because it is deteriorating. I had my 4th operation on it 3 months ago and have just stopped using my brace and crutches. I still have pain and am on an intensive rehab programme. Even though I never use my parking permit at the shops, I use it at uni. There is never any parking and there are 10 disabled parking bays which I have only ever seen one other one being used. I feel bad when I use it though because to anyone else I just look like a lazy cow because I can walk normally but I have to be really careful, especially lugging all my books around. Am I wrong parking there? I really hate seeing people using the bays when they can obviously walk so I feel like such a hypocrite.

I'm not sure what an ACROD parking permit is.

I am disabled as is my partner, and we have tags that hang in the windshield of our vehicle indicating that we are parked legitimately.

If what you are speaking of here is a hang tag, or some other means of identifying your vehicle as being driven by a disabled person, then I wouldn't give a second thought to parking in the handicapped parking.

What infuriates me is people who are not disabled or handicapped in any way, using these special parking spots!

In fact I keep several stripes of printed paper, with, "Stupidity is not a handicap. PARK ELSEWHERE!" on them, which I place on windsheilds of vehicles that are illegally parked in those spaces! LOL!

I don't think your a hypocrite but your not a person who parks there for no utter reason, don't feel bad about yourself, if its painful!

no you're not wrong =]

if you have problems walking then you have every right to park in the disabled bays.

=]

You obviously have a real problem so stop caring about what other people MIGHT be thinking..

You have a legitimate pass to use one and it is no body's business why. Don't feel guilty and take care!

You have a legitimate reason and permit to park there - people need to grow up sometimes. If I were you I'd carry something with you that shows what is wrong with you - just in case a policeman ever asks you. Lots of Luck!!!!!

If it is painful to walk, you risk further injury or aggravation if you don't use that spot.

The greater issue here is worrying what others think of you. People are going to think what they want, you parking in the back of the lot is not going to change this one bit.

Do your best. If you're feeling well, by all means, park a distance away and walk it. But, do not give yourself a setback by worrying what others are thinking.

Screw Them.

If you hurt yourself by lugging all your books, and over-doing it, then we are entitled to an opinion. That would be dumb.

I personally thank All-Mighty God I have the health to walk a distance. I do not pass judgment. But I am the minority as well.

Take the spot. Work on how you feel about others. And...you're not a hypocrite.

if u are hurting then use it but i would feel bad if i took a real realy crippled person spot
