How soon can I ride my bike after a TAH please?!
Question: The op didn't go to good, I had a paralysed colon afterwards and was in a lot of pain with vomiting. It was over a week before I could open my bowels and then only because I had a suppositary. I'ts been 16 days since the op and I've felt rough ever since with little appetite and I'm wondering how much longer I must expect to feel unwell?

I wouldn't ride your bike for a while, not until you're feeling better. Try a lighter exercise such as walking for now. Sometimes after surgery our colons and bowels need a kick start to get going again and if you're constipated then it's no wonder you have little appetite. You need to give your innards a boost. First off, make sure you're drinking plenty of plain old water, up your intake significantly. Secondly try a fiber supplement such as benefiber until your bowels return to normal. Finally you can either try a stool softener or a stool softener/laxative combined to help kick-start things. Do all this on a regular day-to-day basis until you start going to the bathroom again. Suppositories are great but unfortunately they don't do anything for hard stool that maybe in the colon.
