What, if anything, is the difference between a cold sore and a canker sore?!

Question: and dose anyone know a good treatment for them ...

Answers: and dose anyone know a good treatment for them ...

A cold sore is inside the mouth, and can be caused by a number of things #1. as the name implies it can be the predecessor to an oncoming cold.
#2. it can come for to much acidic foods
#3. STRESS
and you can also just be prone to getting them as I am.

Canker sores are on the outside of the mouth they come from genetic influences and can be linked to Oral Herpies.

As for a cure .. there really is not one unfortunately, however to make yourself more comfortable while you have it do the following.

A: Use Oragel to numb the pain
B: Use Blistex on the sore it self to speed the healing process

---Note if you use the Blistex make sure the area is dry when applying it, and try to keep it dry until all the medicine has dissolved into the sore. ---

Not that you would want to ... but be sure not to kiss anyone with either for these types of sores as they can be very contagious. Also stay away from acidic foods and the sore will heal much quicker.

Good Luck, I know it is not easy!!

Hang in there!

a cold sore is a herpes sore on your mouth. Use abreva to take it off.

Canker sores are different, nobody really knows why they come about, but they do. Put some salt on it to dry it up.

A cold sore is outside of your mouth and a canker sore is inside your mouth. But also I think that you get canker sores from genetics and cold sores just happen, like colds.

A canker sore is inside your mouth and is like a tiny little infection this is gone in 2-3 days...a cold sore is on the outside of your mouth and is a form of herpes. You don't ever want to kiss someone during an outbreak of a cold sore. As it is herpes, it is incredibly contagious. Once you have any form of herpes and there is no cure, you've got it for life. That doesn't mean you'll have the cold sore for life, but you will have outbreaks for life.

Just avoid smooching until the cold sore is gone!

Cold sores appear on the outside of your mouth, usually on the lips. They usually look like a small bump. These are caused by the herpes simplex virus, I believe strain 2. Don't worry, although it is the same virus it isn't the same strain as the std one. Cold sores are incredibly contagious though, so don't share food or kiss anyone until its gone. Typically they have ointments and chapstick like sticks that you can rub on them for treatment.

Canker sores are a whole different ball game. They occur on the inside of the mouth. Usually they will start out as a small red patch, and then become an open white ulcer. There are a number of things that can cause them: biting your lip, scraping your gum (generally trauma at the sore location), viruses (like when you have a cold or the flu), allergies, too much salty foods, bacteria, stress, you name it, it can cause it. Canker sores, unlike cold sores, are not contagious.

For both of these you can find treatments at your local pharmacy, or check in the grocery store in the pharmacy area. Specifically where the throat drops are. I know that they have rub on sticks for cold sores, and drop like medicines you can put on the canker sores to help them heal faster.

Good luck!
