I think i may have a ear infection :(?!

Question: i have pain in my ear (my right ear) also pain on right side of my face. it feels clogged and i feel a little pressure. i called my doctors office and i think the office was close so i left a message. i was thinking about going to the er but i don't want to be there all night, so is there something i can purchase at the drug store? i also called the nurse outline and she said i have some of the symptoms of an ear infection. so can i purchase something that is safe to use/make this go away atleast until i can go to the er or doctor's office. serious answers only thank you.

You can't make the infection go away on your own, but you can get relief for your symptoms. I always recommend warm compresses for people with earaches. The one that I have found works the best is uncooked rice in a sock. Fill an old sock with rice, and put in the microwave for a minute or two until it's warm. Then apply the sock to the ear. The rice holds heat and the texture feels really nice. you can also take sinus medicine (like tylenol sinus). This can help to alleviate some of the fluid build up in your ear and reduce the pain. Definately go to the doc and have it looked it. If left untreated it will just become more and more painful and probably cause a ruptured eardrum. I know ruptured ear drum sounds bad, but they really don't cause any lasting damage... it's just your body's way of letting the fluid out of your ear.
Good luck... and do the rice-sock thing.... it always helps!

Try some Sudifed and take Motrin. This will help the congestion and pain. Go to the Doctor tomorrow before it gets worse.
