Getting a decent nights sleep..?!

Question: I ususally get between 6 to 8 hours sleep (Falling asleep at 10-12pm, rising as 6am), but yet i always seem exhausted in the mornings, sometimes to the point where i can barely open my eyes.

I ususally get to bed as early as possible as i value my sleep, but still I find it hard to actually sleep. I spend a good hour plus tossing and turning in my bed trying to get comfortable. This isnt doing me any good; it is not rare for me to be in a state in which im doing things such as making breakfast, but still having to keep my eyes closed out of the intense exhaustion. Although this wears off after the first hour or so of the day, I continue to be exhausted. This causes me great distress as i find it hard to concentrate in lectures and thus end up learning half the material by myself at home, hence making me even more exhausted!

I try to avoid dairy produce before i go to bed, at the advice of my friends, but this hasnt yeilded any results. I dont think I have insomania either.

Sorry, I know what you are going through. I too have problems falling asleep, when I finally fall asleep, I don't stay asleep.
Doctors recommended a life style change for me, of course no caffeine after 3PM, this means soda, chocolate, and no surgery foods either. Not sure if you eat any of that or not but if so, stop. Also, no excercise 2-3 hours prior to bed time. No stimulating things, example, No loud Action films or the like, NO COMPUTER I was also told. Some did help once I realized I shouldn't do any of the above mentioned things. It turns out I have insomnia, probably brought on by my Bad case of LYME DISEASE. The sleeping pills help but not so well anymore. Oh, no naps either in the day was also another recommendation. Try some warm milk, if it does not improve, please seek medical attention before it gets worse. I thought no way was I taking sleeping pills, well it turns out I am, I have no choice, and I don;t wake up feeling groggy or hungover. I use Ambiem 10MG, Try some of the suggestions. I hope you get sleep soon and if not seek a doctors opinion. You will be really glad you did once you had a good nite of peaceful sleep. God Bless, hey try praying the Rosary if your a Christian, it used to help me. Take CARE and find out what is troubling you enough to keep you awak.. Good luck,

Try to not drink caffeine through out the day. That will cause you to be tired in the morning, drink lots of water. It helps me :)

Practice daily inhaling deeply pure and fresh air at least 12 times.
You will be rejuvenated and also have good-night sleep.

hi! my advise is to do one of the following or in combination:
1. do some exercise.
2. get a body massage from a special someone... = )
3. have a warm bath.
4. read a boring book.
5. change the environment of your room. think that a bed room is only used for sleeping...meaning no work stuff or play things.
6. before you sleep make sure that the room is dark and everything is quiet.
7. listen to an audio book or a soothing music preferably a classical, jazz or blues... no rap, hip-hop, or rock music.
8. write on a diary or journal.
9. make sure that you have settled everything with everybody, fix any quarrels and any problems.
10. Pray.
- i hope you could sleep better soon. a decent sleep is very important.

I have trouble falling asleep too. My secret weapon is a podcast I downloaded for free from The Meditation Podcast. It's titled "Falling Asleep" and was put online in March 2007. It's 23 minutes long but I've never gotten past the 5th minute awake.
