This could be anything. It could be an abscess, benign lipoma, epidermal cyst, or as you suggest a trauma from an injury. Go to www.webmd.com and try the symptom checker. Then tomorrow schedule an appointment with your doctor to narrow down what it possibly could be. If anything, it will give you peace of mind that it isn't anything.

yes, thats why it is possible to break one..

only if its fractured.

Yeah I think so. But I heard that breaking a rib is extremely painful, so I would think you would feel it as soon as it happened.

Yes, that is VERY possible.. I would go get an xray and then doctors will be able to tell if you did fracture or even break it based on the scaring.

A fractured rib is very painful and you would have known at the time it was fractured. I had severe pain anytime I changed position in bed. This went on for over three weeks. It sounds like a dislocated or floating rib. Have an x ray and your doctor will explain what your options are. I suspect if it is not painful no medical action would be necessary.

You would know if you broke a rib!! Teribble pain, for a lot of weeks!

yes its possible. you can fracture ANY bone in your body. But a rib fracture is very very painful. I would imagine you would have realized it was fractured when it happened though. usually it is so painful it hurts even to breath.

Absosmurfly! It's a bone and therfore can be fractured.
