Nosebleeds...?!

Question: I have had 4 nosebleeds in the last 3 days, mostly small but I had one yesterday which was quite bad and lasted about 15 minutes. I have read there are two types, one where the blood comes out of the nostrils, and one where the blood goes down the throat. With mine if I tip my head back it goes down my throat and if I have my head forward it comes out my nose, so I don't really know which type of nosebleeds I get? I go for months at a time without any then get a spell like this when the can be frequent, but not normally this frequent.
I'm not sure if it could be stress related, maybe making my blood pressure higher. I have been under some pressure at work this week. Another thing, I was with somebody smoking which I am not used to and found it hard to breathe, that was Sunday and I have had nosebleeds Mon, Tues, Wed, could that maybe be related?
Also I am 20 and have no other health problems that I am aware of.
Any help of guidance is much appreciated, thank you!

Your probably right about the high blood pressure, especially if you are stressed.

This is a common thing with high blood pressure, it's a good thing though, you'd much rather have the vessels in your nose bleed than your brain...
There aren't necessarily two types dependant upon where the blood goes, it just depends on how you tilt your head, just as you said.

You should tilt it forward so it doesn't get into your lungs or stomach when that happens.

I don't think the exposure to one cigarette would cause days worth of nosebleeds, I would check into the blood pressure thing first.

I could just be a simple problem of a blood vessel near the surface. See your doc - it may need cauterising but they need to see it bleeding to do this so they know where the vessel is. Not pleasant but neither are the nose bleeds.

No need to worry at this stage! Go and see your GP and have your Blood Pressure checked.
If that is ok you probably need your int.nose blood vessel cauterised. No big deal, done at day surgery. Good Luck.

By tipping your head back you open the airway to allow the blood to go that way...

Smoke MAY have a part in it but I honestly do not know despite what this Surgeon General says as his study is completely opposite of the three previous studies...

Stress can raise the blood pressure and since their are a gazillion capillaries in our face and nose, the odds of them breaking are increased...

Are you hydrated enough and is it abnormally dry with lower humidity in your area?

Elevation can also play a factor in this too...

If it does not stop, you may want to consult a doctor...

Citrus bioflavonoids will help to strengthen weak blood vessels.

it's blood pressure or some severe allergies
