ACL recovery takes about 6 months to "heal" before u will be cleared to do light sprots(no squating, twisting, or jarring motions)....

work very hard in PT and u should be ok..
but as far as walking around u should be ok in 2 months.... but i would check with ur doc to be sure... rent a wheelchair if u need to and use ur brace

hope ur surgery goes well... let me know... email if u want cheergirl626@yahoo.com
Im see a specialist for my knee on Monday to see when im having surgery(my knee gave out two weeks ago and it still is quite unstable and swollen, when it gave out i felt something ripping inside my knee... hoping its not my ACL but everyone thats looked at my MRI seems to think so, as well as people who havent seen them but heard about what happened when it gave)

have fun in DIsney :)

Recovery from ACL surgery depends on which procedure you are having done.

The three main procedures I know are:

Replacement of the ligament with part of the patella tendon

Replacement with two of your smaller hamstring muscles the gracilis (sp) and the semitendenosis (sp).

The third involves replacing the ligament with donor tissue.

Of the three procedures the last, using donor tissue, has the fastest recovery time. This is because there is less cutting and less damage to other areas (ie the patella tendon or thehamstring).

I had a friend who had the donor tissue procedure and was walking without crutches less that a week after the surgery.

I had the procedure where they used parts of my hamstring muscles and I was on crutches for 2 weeks and less than two months later I was walking around fine.

Also a lot depends on your rehab. Here's a hint - Take it seriously. Do everything the physiotherapist tells you to do at home.

I know the patella tendon procedure has a longer recovery, and I have a friend who had that procedure. But I don't remember the actual recovery time for him.

No matter what procedure you are having, you wont be totally recovered in two months. But I'd suggest that walking should be OK.

My husband was out of comision for about 4 months. but at your time to go to Disney ask your doctor about a brace to get around and don't be afraid to use a wheelchair or a cane to help you get around. But the best thing to do is the leg brace. My husband had one and it help him get around until he healed. Good Luck

Forever

a few months
