How long does it take for a fractured sternum to heal?!

Question: I fractured my sternum today while lifting weights, already had it checked by a doctor, and have been perscribed pain medication, but no one told me how long it would take to heal, someone please give me a general healing time frame for this kind of injury.

4 to 6 weeks, thats what mine took

its about 4 to six weeks, but make sure you consult your doctor when you start feeling better. Your sternum holds the front of your rib cage together and is there as a sturdy protection to your heart. Do not do anything crazy like start feeling better and start lifting weights and drop the bar on your chest, you can drive a piece of the bone into your heart. under the sternum is the peritineum (thin tissue layer), fat tissue, then plura cavity (very thin tissue covering the heart). Be smart and follow your doctors orders.
