I Can not sleep due to a cough that will not go away.?!

Question: For the past 3 days I have had a cough that is keeping me up until the wee hours of the night.

I have tried everything from cough drops to cough suppressant to gargling with salt water to using a humidifier, and NOTHING is working.

The funny thing is is that Cough drops and cough syrup works during the day and when I am up, but when I lay down I get a severe, uncontrollable cough.

Nothing gets coughed up, it is mostly dry. And this cough started Wednesday after a severe allergy attack(Sinus headache, sinus drainage, etc)

Hi, I am just getting over something similar. Best thing to do is go to the doctor to check it out. It may be sinusitis or bronchitis and you may need antibiotics for it. I am not a doctor, but if it keeps you from sleeping, that is a sign you should seek medical attention. Please let someone check it out for you. I have sinusitis and the antibiotics are working great for me.

I had that cough once recently, and it was hard for me to overcome. You should get turnips and cook it up... I know it sounds gross but it works along with taking beladonna; you can get it at longs drugs. Also, if that doesn't work just rest and find a cough suppressent.

Cough could be a sign of allergies or asthma. Take some allergy pills like clarityn. But clarityn maybe to mild.

I once develped a cough like that but it wasn't dry. I went to the doctor and he told me to stop taking cough suppressants because the "stuff" can't get out. He gave medication and told me to beat my chest gently to make the stuff loose (and have someone beat my back). It worked for me - it finally stopped. Since then, I'm against cough suppressants.

My son has asthma and his only sympton is a dry cough at night. Sometimes, it's not dry, but it usually is.

sounds like it could be asthma, go to the dr and get it checked. try sleeping with an extra pillow so you are propped up a bit higher, sometimes that helps. if you hvae allergy issues then you may be developing asthma. dont mess with it, go and get it checked out.
