Stomach STILL hurts days after stopping anti-inflammatory?!

Question: My dr prescribed Indocin (or Indomethacin), a very strong anti inflammatory, for my arthritis. It has warnings all over it to take it with food, and I did, but it was still too much for my stomach. I quit taking it as I was doubled over in pain after a week. Now it's about 5 days after I stopped it and i'm still hurting in my belly. Anyone else have this problem with this kind of medicine, and how long did it take before your stomach stopped aching?

Hi, Yes i did and that medication is so hard on your stomach. Have you seen or called the Dr and let him know? You can get ulcers from meds but i don't think you took it long enough for that but you can never rule anything out. Have you taken any Mylanta or something like prilosec? Anything over the counter that is used to treat the stomach from this. There are so many brands and the generic is good also so you don't have to pay the high prices. Zantac is good also and can start helping right away sometimes so read the labels for the ones that provide relief now. If this does not help at all and you do not notice any difference you should see your Dr on Monday and need to call him anyway to let him know what happened. Good luck to you and I hope this helped you and don't to let this go if you start vomiting blood or if it is in your stool go to the ER immediately.

go back to the doctors.

I would call the doc. asap. Could have bleeding in you stomach or an ulser from this medicine. Let me know.
