What causes Strong pains In my mid-lower abdomen when Running?!

Question: I usually start off jogging and then over the course of the work out i start getting pains on either side of my abdomen. I try to continue jogging but the pain eventually becomes so strong it even hurts to walk. (my legs don't hurt)The only way it goes away is the stop jogging for awhile and it will slowly decrease.

Are these cramps if so what could be causing them?

* Just started jogging on a regular basis
* i run at 8pm so its awhile since i'v eaten

It's called a "stich", or "Side Stitch" - look it up on WEBMD, or just Google it - plenty of info.

Hmmm, maybe you should be checked for a hernia?

The nerves on the inside of your body are not as sensitive (as good at communicating) with your brain. When something hurts your skin your nerves are so sensitive that they can tell your brain exactly what is hurting and where.

Inside the abdomen, a pain can feel like it is in an area that is different than the area that is actually sending the signal. The communication between body and brain isn't that great inside there.

Jogging pains are most likely your diaphragm. This is the muscle that helps you pull air into your lungs. It's either cramping or burning out a bit. I think you just have to build up to the jogging (the diaphragm will strengthen just like your other muscles) Sticking to it is your best course, but don't torture yourself...these pains are extremely painful!! Give yourself time to build endurance.
