My broken toe won't heal?!

Question: I broke my toe about six weeks ago and it will not heal. The X-rays look the same as they did when I broke it. Now I have to go to an orthopaedic surgeon. Does anyone know what he might do to fix it?

Hi There! I broke my toe Jan. 26Th. The big one.
It was broke horizontally and also two breaks into the joint.
Let me tell you I broke my ankle and had surgery and nothing compares to a broken toe, no matter which one it is.
The main thing is to get off of it as much as possible.
If it's the first toe don't buddy tape it wrap tape around it.
The only toe that needs a walking boot is the big one.
You might need to go to an orthopaedic if it is the large one.
If it's any of the other ones buddy tape it. Put it up above your heart when lying down. Mine still hurts. The doctor said it takes 6 months because you are walking on it.
It is still red and swollen. I went to an orthopaedic and I had a very bad break, and I didn't have to have pins or anything.
Unless it is a compound the ortho said most times they let nature take its course. Not always!
Good Luck! Take 2 aleve. The ibuprofen doesn't work as well he said.

follow up with the orthopedist. take a list of questions and have them answered BEFORE you leave the office.

You probably broker the toe at the joint and perhaps ripped part or all of the tendon away from the bone.

Usually, they operate and fuse the joint. That cures the problem.

Had it done to my big toe almost 40 years ago and haven't had a problem since.

I don't know if an orthopaedic surgeon CAN fix it. Have him set and cast the toe. The immobility should let it heal by itself. Stay off your feet, stay in bed and let people serve you for a few weeks. Don't put ANY weight on it, at all. That is MY suggestion!
