Question: my friends gets cold sores and i took a drink from his cup. he does not have a outbreak of cold sores right now. will i get them now or am i ok. also, are cold sore herpes

cold sores are contagious but it is less likely that you would get it from sharing a glass than with actual physical contact with the cold sore. If he does not have an open cold sore he is not contagious. It is caused by the herpes simplex virus which lays dormant and during stress or times of lower immunity cause a cold sore. This is the same virus as in genital herpes and oral sex while one has a cold sore can cause genital herpes in the partner. if he doesn't have a cold sore right now, you shouldn't get one. And yes, Cold sores are herpes. I get them once in a while. Usually in the Wintertime. They are the same bacteria.
As the nurse said its your immunity, i get them after I had a cold, thats when my immunity is fighting the cold in my body, non of my kids or wife get them (they have better immunity than me) and If I wanted more technical details I go and ask my old man (he is a Prof. in Immunology)
you could get them still but its less likely becouse he didnt have a sore. and yes cold sores are herpes
