it sounds like a problem with your lumbar spine. although it is not a part of your spinal cord which is very important, the lumbar spine works with your hips, buttocks, and lower legs and feet. you may have strained it or it could be the beginning of lumbar spine stenosis which i seriously doubt since it is from lifting. you should go see a doctor since lifting done the wrong way can seriously do some damage to your lower back. dont be alarmed at the answers about your spinal cord and needing to go to the ER immediately. your lower back generally has to do with the lumbar spine which the problems you are describing it has to do with. just make an appointment with your doctor asap and get that checked out. in the meantime avoid lifting!! =) feel better soon!

ps. in the meantime just try some heat and take ibuprofen and stay off of your feet!

pps. it might be a herniated disc? in any case feel better!

"Acute or short-term low back pain generally lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Most acute back pain is the result of trauma to the lower back or a disorder such as arthritis. Pain from trauma may be caused by a sports injury, work around the house or in the garden, or a sudden jolt such as a car accident or other stress on spinal bones and tissues. Symptoms may range from muscle ache to shooting or stabbing pain, limited flexibility and range of motion, or an inability to stand straight. Chronic back pain is pain that persists for more than 3 months. It is often progressive and the cause can be difficult to determine."

No, it's not normal.

It sounds like you might have injured your lower back. Sometimes the pain from a back injury will radiate through your hips and down your thigh and even make your knees hurt too.

Remember, your spinal cord is the center of your entire nervous system, so the effects of any injury there can sometimes be felt throughout the entire body.

Take something for the pain (Tylenol, Advil) and if it doesn't get better in the next few days go see a doctor in case you have a more serious back injury. If so, there are exercises you can do to strengthen your lower back and make it less susceptible to injury.

have you not had it checked out? could possibly be sciatica, your best seeing a Dr.

Oh yes! Lifting anything heavy can cause all sorts of problems. I have a bad back, also and when I wake up in the morning I can barely stand up. You may have sprained a muscle or torn something. If I were you I'd see a doctor and have some x-rays taken ASAP! Then, the damage can be assessed and they can determine the best course of treatment. Don't wait! It can exacerbate. Good Luck!

PS. Google spinal stenosis. That's what it sounds like you might have, but I would never try to self diagnose. That's dangerous along with self medicating. See a doctor or a chiropractor.
