You'll always feel better when you wake up naturally as opposed to when you wake up using an alarm clock, if the alarm clock is waking you up from stage 3 or 4 sleep. During the night, you cycle between light and deep sleep. Sleep has five stages:

Stage 1: drowsiness, muscle activity slows down

Stage 2: light sleep, breathing and heart rate slow

Stage 3: deep sleep, brain begins to generate slow delta waves

Stage 4: very deep sleep, rhythmic breathing, limited muscle activity, lots of delta waves.

REM: brainwaves speed up, most dreams occur, heart rate and breathing speed up, muscle paralysis.

During the night, it looks like this: 1 2 3 4 3 2 (REM) 2 3 4 3 2 (REM) 2 3 4 3 2 1

You typically cycle through REM more times than that, but you get the idea.

You're supposed to wake up from stage 1 or 2, drowsiness or light sleep. If you wake up from stage 3 or 4 you will feel groggy and disoriented (and if you wake up from REM sometimes you'll experience sleep paralysis, but usually you'll feel fine).

Try getting one of those alarm clocks that wake you up slowly. The alarm clocks with the lights that turn on and gradually get brighter have been designed to lull you out of deep sleep before jarring you awake. There are also alarm clocks that start out with a quiet noise and gradually get louder. Those will help a little bit. The best thing to do is to experiment and try to figure out the natural length of your cycle, and always get up when you wake up the first time (don't go back to sleep because you have 20 more minutes).

It could be that you just have a low sleep need. People range quite a bit and some people only need 3 or 4 hours of sleep. The vast majority need more sleep than that, and if you ever need to sleep in on a weekend to compensate for the week, you're sleep deprived. However, if you're able to wake up naturally and feel great while getting 5-6 hours of sleep on a regular basis, don't worry about it... enjoy it!

thats just how your body is

Your a VAMPIIIRE!!! AHH!

ha the same thing happens to me! lmao thats y i got to bed at 12 on school nights because i have to wake up at 6.

hmmm maybe that is just how ur body works, do u do sports and stuff and also the longer u sleep the more time that means that u didnt eat and lack of food can make u sleepy

maybe your body is used to waking up at a certain time...I'm the same way, but you start to feel tired later on in the day and need a nap or it'll catch up with you tomorrow

ure fine, i am the same exact way! unless we are both going crazy! lol i think its a mental way of thinking

If you wake up on your own like that, it's an indication that your body has all the sleep/rest it needs. Your internal clock may be different than the average persons. So, enjoy the extra hours every day and do something for yourself!

drink night quill.

That's normal. I have the same problem, It's nothing bad.

If you're a grown person you generally don't need as much sleep as younger people. You might just be a morning person. Try going to bed at two totally different times and wake up at the same time. Usually on the weekends no matter when I go to bed I wake up around nine thirty. Good luck.

lol yeah i get that myself =).i remember i was up late doin a project until 3 in the mourning! then when i wake up for school i feel wide awake.im sorry though i 4got what its called it has something to do with the saved up energy in your body.and yes its normal so dont worry.(but seriously, keep gettin alot of sleep ok)
~good luck~

i think its fine its just how u r and u shouldn't be ashamed of it! do wut's best for u and ur body. :D

Doctors say that to get the most restful sleep you should try to wake up at the end of a REM cycle. If you wake up during one, you still feel tired. The average person completes a REM cycle once every three hours. Therefore you would feel better if you slept 6 or 9 hours, instead of 7 or 8. So, there is nothing wrong with you!

scientists at the royal institute of sleep therapy recently found that the human body only needs 4-7 hours of sleep per day, turns out im 5 hours over the limit!

why not make a separate group of like people?

maybe u hav been doing this 4 a while so ur body adjusted to a diffferent schedule same with me buddy can sleep for more than 4 hours a day

nothing, maybe you're just used to getting that amount of sleep and when you sleep longer you feel like crap. Idk I'm like that too on the weekends when I sleep more.. i have no idea what it is but yeah it's totally weird. Also try to eat a little more, maybe you're running low on energy?
