Going to get a mole removed?!

Question: Its on my face just above the lip line. Im petrified of the procedure, more to the point, the injection to numb it, got a SLIGHT phobia!!! the procedure is a week on tuesday.

I was wondering if i went to see my GP and explain that ive got a needle phobia, would my GP able to give me any medication, to help me relax, calm down sort of thing for the next week?

Thanks.

I had one removed, from under my arm.

It was an injection, some liquid stuff which 'froze it' then a cut, no feeling, afterword a little sore. I suggest just deep breaths, staying still, and you should be fine. The needle is VERY TINY and you DO NOT FEEL IT! Esp. by the lip, that is a spot not too sensitive and afterwords the pain will be worth it, think that way.

Medication to calm may be too extreme for such a situation, if anything they may joke with laughing gases or something? A single valium/xanax may be extreme, but possible.

I have a similar problem. It is possible for a cream to be rubbed on the skin before using the injection which stuns the surface of the skin so that you do not feel the needle.

Your GP is unlikely to prescribe any medication, because this could interfere with the procedure or with drugs used during the procedure.

depends what kind of needle hes using, I had a staff infection when i was a kid and my dad is a surgeon and he took a needle and poked it, it hurt bad!

But I don't think Doc's use ordinary needles, they're like no pain needles

Thanks

call them...sometimes they will prescribe a mild sedative...my son has to do this to go to the dentist

For such a small procedure, most GPs would prefer not to medicate you.
