Infected burn?!

Question: i burned myself on a motorcycle muffler the other day. It looks like a 2nd degree. I didn't really do much for it except put cool water on it right after because I wasn't at a place I could. Later on in my evening, it popped and then that skin peeled off when I was hanging out around a bonfire. For stupid reasons, I did not cover it and let dirt and fuzz get into it during the night. I gently attempted to clean it the next day, but I feel I am too late. It is very painful still, sorta looks like there is pus after I remove the gauze. I have been putting burn cream/triple antibiotic cream on it. The burn is about 2 inches in diameter and there is an outer red ring around this. It hurts to move around on it in the general area of the burn. Is it necessary to go to the doctor? Anything I can do to make it better myself? Please help me. I've never had a burn this bad before.

You could try to treat it yourself initially. Wash the area with warm water and soap at least twice a day and then put on antibiotic ointment and a dressing that completely covers it. Watch your temperature. If it goes above 100.2 and the area has increased pus draining or gets redder or more swollen please see a doctor. That really hurts when you do that doesn't it. I can sympathize.

Any burn which is greater than a 50 cent piece and is 2nd degree or more should be taken to hospital. You should take to a doctor ASAP because you run a high risk of blood poisioning. The fact you can feel pain around the site is good, as it means it is not a thrid degree burn. So in short yes, go to your doctor now.
