Any scoliosis tips to get through the day?!

Question: I always feel the need to lean to one side to relieve the pain..
I really feel it in my left shoulder
I think the fact that I haven't been exercising has affected me...there's a numbing pain on my left side...
I have 38 degree left thoracolumbar scoliosis
Do you think pain killers would help?
Certain stretches, be specific?
Asking for your experience.

Leaning or positioning yourself to get pain relief is good. So is getting up and moving around when you can. Stretching the back muscles around the curve will give short-term relief.

If you're more numbed now than you used to be, you can probably be feeling your curve get a little worse. A nerve that wasn't pinched before is now.

Pain killers will definitely help, but you'll need a good match for your pain. There are many kinds. If one doesn't do the job, talk to your doctor and try something else (always under supervision, of course).

For me, OTC or non-narcotics didn't work at all. You will probably be asked to try motrin, then naproxen and maybe ultram. If those don't work for you, don't waste time trying and trying. Simply tell the doctor that med xxx isn't working and you'll need to try something else.

Vicodin was the first thing that worked but it did make me spacey. It also affected my short-term memory. Meds don't make me spacey anymore. It will take time for you to adjust to them also. You might have had your surgery before you're able to get used to it.

Try a heating pad for pain relief - one that is large enough to cover the area that's painful.

A brace needs to be prescribed by a scoliosis specialist. They're useful for trying to keep the curve from getting worse, but don't expect the brace to improve your curve. Any correction you get will be temporary. Also note that you have to still be growing and your curve needs to be around 25-40 degrees (give or take - see your specialist for more info). If you're not, the brace has no chance of working.

Send email if you'd like to discuss this further.

i think you should go get you a back brace and some medications that would work for the pain, like celebrex, something like that,i took it and some days it worked.

if you are having muscle spasming from it.....try getting a TENS/Muscle Stimulator. the TENS helps with pain management and the Muscle Stim helps the muscles contract and relax, doing away with the spasms. i promise it will help :)
