What is the best style of swimming you need to practice to help a herniated L5 S!
Question: The Australian crawl would probably put less stress on your lower back than other strokes. Make sure you rotate your whole body when you turn to breathe (don't twist at the waist). I have a painful lower back and this is the swimming stroke I use and it has been very useful for my back and serenity.

None, disks don't heal. You will need a microdiskectomy to correct the problem. I had this exact same disk rupture. My neurologist removed the offending material and I felt 100% once the incision heal.
