Pain from waiting tables?!

Question: I have worked as a waitress for 7 years and I think its finally taking its toll on me. I have a sore ankle and a sore knee. The pain is off and on but still bothers me. I'm only 23 and I don't want my job to affect my health. So, I have two questions:

1. Can I continue working this job?

2. What can I do to help with the pain?

I finally quit waiting table after 20 yrs. If you are now having pain at 23 then I would look for a new line of work. Does your restaurant have cement floors or wood? The cement floors are really hard on the joints when walking on then all day. To help the pain, try soaking in the tub with hot water and epsom salt. It will make the pain feel better. How you start to feel better

I waitressed on and off for a total of 9 years and yes it took it's toll at the end. I recommend that you wear the BEST shoes that you can afford. Does not matter what they look like as long as they feel great and give you lots of support. I also wore pantyhose that were support hose. If you wear pants, wear an elastic knee brace on the sore knee.

Did you have previous injuries to these areas? Take it easy on the legs and shoulders too.

Do you drink or eat anything with artificial sweeteners? ASPARTAME had cause me a great deal of pain, especially in my back. I stopped drinking diet soda and it went away.

I also have been waiting tables for a while and it can get to you. I have been doing it for almost 6 years and do not have those specific pains but I have seen others that have. You are still young you really should look into trying to get another job. Right now I am going to school to get out of waiting tables one day. It is good money but seeing those women at my work that have been there for 20 years, that is not what I want to end up being like. Good luck to you and maybe take an Alive for the pain.

You are too young to put your health at risk. I would start looking for another job and also looking into grants or loans to go back to school. There are all kinds of options out there for you. I waited tables for a while after I got divorced and it's great money but takes it's toll.
Go see a doctor about the pain or try wrapping your ankle and staying off of it whenever you can. Same goes for your knee. If it's arthritis heat usually helps, but for any kind of pain you should really get a Dr.'s opinion.

1. Realistically, you need to switch your job.
I don't see any other position that will
change your posture working in a restaurant.

2. Change your job will preventing the pain from
getting worse, but how to help with the pain
will depend on what was the real cause of
your pain.
Such as was there any injury previously,
or if any member of your family have the
same problem....
It is hard to provide accurate advice without
enough information provided.

I suggest you to visit a acupuncture doctor.
Acupuncture usually works great for pains.
You should feel the improvement for the first
or 2nd acupuncture.
Otherwise, you need to change to another
acupuncture doctor.
However, it takes 8-10 times, once a week to
complete a treatment cycle.

Right now it is a bit painful especially if you are a busy 1.I did it for 20 years and i'm paying for it now...i was a hostess so i always had to wear heels and i'm paying now....2 knee surgeries and a lot of rehab for my knees. My advice, comfortable shoes, lots of a535,heat patches work great too and don't do this kind of work for too much longer...take care....hope the tips are nice at least...lol
