I got cement in my eye, ouchy?!

Question: Yesterdat at work, I was putting down a 25kg bag of Rugby grey premium cement after pouring it into a gauging bucket. Apon doing so, i kind of put the bag down to fast, and the cement exploded into my face, unfornetly going into my eyes, after scrapeing it out with my finger nails, I washed my eyes under the taps for about 10mins, till I realised I was in alot of pain.

My boss took me to A+E where I was for 3 hours while they were fixing my eyes. I've got bad burns in my left eye on the cornia, and minor burns in the eye, which I cant feel.

I've been taking paracetamol every 4 hours to help the pain, it does help a bit, but how long will this pain last, its obvious unbearable as its in my eye, im finding it hard to see because, the eye is watering constantly.

thankyou.

the eye has a mechanism to use produce water to protect itself , also keeping it moist.

although your eye is watering it is helping it heal. did they tell you to rest it or put a patch on it?

I've hurt my eye in the past, and yep it does last a while..
does it hurt less when you close it? since there is no air getting to it?

I'm sure the hospital told you exactly what needed doing, your eye will take a while to heal / regenerate.

perhaps your boss should give you all safety goggles.

Poor you, although you type pretty well still!

Your eyes heal pretty quick, sorry I have no difinitive answer for you, but I hope you're well soon

your eyes were burnt by the lime in the cement powder as well as bady abraded by the cement in the mix. You may be suffering for a week or more. I reccomend an eye patch, keep out of bright light and just try to relax.
been there, done that. sucks like bloody hell.

You need to visit your local hospital and have the eye professionally flushed with a saline solution or you may cause permanent damage to the eye area.

I know you are in pain, but the last time I mixed concrete, the additive was WATER!!!!

Did you ever stop to think that the concrete in your eye could be hardening?????

Ouch. My husband has injured his eye with cement before, and it will get better. You really should be wearing your eye-patch, though (didn't the doc give you one?). Everytime you blink, you undo the healing process. So go to the store and get an eye patch if you don't already have one. It really is the most important part of helping your eye to heal.

Get Well Soon Joery.
