Why is it that my unilateral hip spica cast must go all the way to my chest? HEL!

When immobilizing an injury, you need to not only immobilize the immediate area but also the areas around it. The cast goes up to your chest so that the lumbar/sacral vertebrae are somewhat immobilized preventing any movement in the hip area.

Why did you not ask the Doctor at the time? Serious Answer!
