How to treat wound on both shins .25 to .5 inch bone visible?!

Question: i jumped and missed a wooden box in class and it caught my legs and completely scraped off the skin where it hit. after i stopped moaning and moving around i cleaned them with peroxide and put bandages on them. i'm afraid i'll get an infection. when i got home i cleaned them with salt water (want it to heal as fast as possible) and put neosporen on them and am letting them air dry. it's swollen and hurts. it's been about 7 hours since i did it. have i done good? what should of i done or what should i do?

firstly, you need to cover the wound or it will get infected more easily. secondly, go to the hospital if it is bruised and swolen tomorrow. with a cut that deep, there is a possibility you will need stitches and/or could have broken something. You can only allpy stitches within 24 hours or less of the cut. lastly, elevate your leg and rest. if it is swolen, having your leg above your heart will help with the swelling.

hope you feel better!?

You are really going to have to keep a close eye on this if the bone is visible. You can get an infection in the bone and then you are really in for some serious trouble! Be sure to keep the neosporin on the abrasions, keep them covered as air has germs in it, you can apply ice packs to help with the swelling and pain and take some ibuprofen as well for swelling and pain. If you see even a small amount of pus begin in either of these you need to get to a Dr ASAP! Do not even think about it as I mentioned earlier, you do not want an infection to set in the bone. The longer you let an infection sit when it gets into the bone the more chance you have of amputation so don't mess with it! If you get a fever you need to go to the ER and let them know and see your legs. Good luck to you and I hope you heal quickly with no complications.

ouch ummmmmm use that stuff that u putt on ur teeth to make it nume

If the bone is visible then you need to see a physician for antibiotics but using peroxide is contraindicated, using neosporin is okay but no longer than 7 days as it says on the label. are you sure it is bone that you are seeing cause if only .5 inches ???? I question if it is bone

Think grow skin at the sites. Seriously I have lots of practice at fixing injuries read http://www.helium.com/tm/148271 for evidence.
I scooped out a piece of skin in my hand down to the muscle 1.5in long 3/4in wide changing a headlight. Took me 5 days to regrow the skin, no stitches, scabbing or drugs. One thing I learned is to elevate the bandage with a ring. That way it is covered but the bandage does not become attached to the wound.
