What is the best over-the-counter migraine headache medication?!

Question: There is no one best migraine medication, over the counter or prescription, as each person's needs are individual.

Many people do well with Excedrin Migraine, however, this medication contains caffeine which is a migraine trigger for many people and can make the headache more intense in those patients. Also, the use of any over the counter analgesic medication too often can result in analgesic rebound and cause headaches.

For occasional migraines most patients find that Tylenol or ibuprofen IAW package directions along with resting in a dark room with soft music or no sound and an ice pack gives the best relief. If you do not have a problem with caffeine, then Excedrin Migraine has a good combination of acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine which has proven effective.

If you have recurrent or frequent migraines, do not use over the counter remedies. See a health care provider for evaluation. There are many issues which can cause recurrent headaches, some are treatable with chiropractic, many with natural substances, and often with only training in relaxation techniques. On occasion, the best treatment for recurrent headaches is prescription medications.

Also there are dietary, sleep and exercise issues which should be evaluated and possibly addressed.

Excedrine Migraine

believe it or not but sinus medicine works best for migraines.

See a chiropractor. Or, if you're lucky, your state allows marijuana for medical use. This is the best. It works on the blood vessels NATURALLY to reduce the problem. It works for killer glaucoma headaches as well as lowering blood pressure in 30 seconds. Be careful of the pain killers prescribed or over the counter-there are long term side effects that will creep up on you and damage you beyond repair. Check the labels if you take anything and don't exceed the dosage or take chemicals long term.

Exedrin migraine is the best that i have found - though nothing compares to Rx meds. I usually take 3, but be careful and don't take with caffiene or you will be bouncing off the walls.

I have found that Dayquil and Nyquil helps me more than anything else I have tried, depending on the time of day, of course.

Also try Shower Soothers, not sure what company makes them, but they are great in a hot shower to relieve some of the pain.

i think different stuff works for everybody. I suffer from bad migraines, and i take daily meds. BUT....when i get get a breakthrough headache , what works for me , is a cup of coffee , and three 200mg motrin.

another thing that works really well, but it is prescription , so you would need to discuss with your doctor, is Fiorcet. They are kick butt !! the dr had had told me can take two for a bad headache , but i dont like to be dependant on pills , so i would always start with one , and that always worked, and it worked VERY WELL, for me. However , my doc said some docs dont like to prescribe that pill, cause some docs feel that pill is addictive, but he had refilled mine, since one bottle of 40, lasted me about a year. i would only take one, when i had a REALLY bad headache. for just like an annoying headache, i would just take Motrin.

viagra

For me? Hands down...excedrin. I think the addition of caffeine is what makes the difference. You can get a $2 off coupon on excedrin.com

Perhaps a magnesium supplement might help.
