No No NO NO NO NO! Never take more than what was prescribed to you. Try this...get a towel, throw it into the dryer on the hottest setting...wait about 10 min and then lay it against the side that hurts.
Keep this up until the pain meds kick in...also stay on a strict schedule with your pain pills for the first couple of days...set an alarm to wake you if you fall asleep...this will keep you from experiencing uncontrolled breakthrough pain. If it is still unbearable - call your dentist, he may change the dosing amount or times.

Whoa, just wait, it will kick in.

hang in there babe. Those things hurt like a *****, I know how ya feel. Might try some ibuprofen or something like that to take the edge off it. :3 Good luck

Yes you can, just take a smaller dose. Hope this helps[=

Relax, take some more.

it takes a while to kick in...i personaly would overdose though

wait until it gets into your system and if still nothing call your pharmacist

no dont take anymore because perscribed medication is extra strong and doesnt have a exaggerated affects. DO NOT TAKE ANY! suck on an ice cube - it will numb the pain

You haven't said what the medication is, so no one here can give you an educated answer.

Call your dentist and tell them what you said here.

They can advise you.

Dont overdose, you will be in wrse shape, I would contact someone now, the dentist could have missed a root, or screwed something up i there, call him and let him know, teeth pain is nothing to play with.

Put a small piece of ice in your mouth over the root canal ... DO NOT take any more than the prescribed medication. Do not 'suck' on the ice or the sore. If you still feel the pain is getting worse after another 3 hours, then call the dentist or go to the emergency room for help. Right now, you are still not actually ON the medication (probably Vicodin or similar drug) and the pain should start going away in another half an hour.

use ora jel and it really works

I pwn with my iphone is a mean mean guy. Also just wait , it will start working soon.

It should kick in soon, if not call your dentist or doctor. Don't overmedicate yourself

give it time. If you have a bag of ice put it in your mouth. Ibuprofen helps. So if you haven't taken any (Motrin, Alleve) then you can take 3-4 ibuprofen tablets every 8 hours as needed for pain. Taking this together with a prescription narcotic, if that's what they gave you, is very helpful.
If the pain is worsening, you're bleeding more than usual, swelling is worsening or developing pus, or if you are developing a fever then seek medical help.

Most pain relievers take 45 min to an hour. Be sure to eat something or drink a milk shake. A root canal done properly shouldn't hurt that much. Maybe you should call them back. Try using and ice pack. If that doesn't help, try heat. Whichever one feels better. An Ibuprofen product works well without drowsiness. You can use Tylenol and Advil together. But, give it time to work. Then stay on top of if. Take it again as soon as it's due. Don't wait for the pain.

Give it a chance to work. Most pain meds take at least 40
minutes to take effect.
Do not wait 8 hours next time. Wait 6 hours or so, and take another pain med. It is better to stay ahead of the pain than it is to try to relieve it. It should not hurt you to take one every 6-7 hours. The 8 hour is an extra safety measure.
If you're taking Vicodin you can take one every 4 hours safely.
I don't understand why you have such pain after a root canal.
That's not normal.
If it doesn't ease up soon call the dentist or go to an emergency room.
Good luck

Give it some time, to kick in, those medications are really strong, I know it hurts a lot but, just be patience. =)

Suprisingly enough, Sucrets lozenges numb your mouth, so get some of those and suck on one.....the pain pill should be kicking in soon too.

Ditto. Give it more time and if it's still unbearable call the pharmacist if it's too late to reach your dentist. He can tell you if you can take a second pill and how frequently
Root canals are pretty painful, that's why they gave you the pain pills, I doubt there is anything wrong. If you get an infection you should spike a fever so if you have any doubts keep an eye on your temp.
All of this talk about ice, if you use ice I would put it on the outside, on your cheek over the tooth unless your dentist told you to put ice in your mouth.

Oh man, you're making my teeth hurt...
I'm dead serious, they are hurting really bad. Deep down... Agh!
That's what I get for clenching my jaw.. I can't help it!

I'm sorry, I feel your pain : (

I had 2 root canals done in 1 visit to the dentist, take some Tylenol until the pain killers kick in

Best thing is a combination of pain-pills and antibiotics. Without the antibiotics, the pain-pills don't really do much.

smoke up a little dank, you'll feel better in no time!

peace is just a toke away.

Edit - I promise.

ya u need help! get no cold water for u because it will make it worse! and no candy, sugar, and sweets! trust me! just eat hot things and it will go away....good luck!

Sorry, I couldn't answer till now. 1/2 hour isn't enough time for it to kick in. It takes about an hour. No, don't do more then you should. Take some Tylenol with it. Drink only warm water for a while. Nothing cold. I've had a root canal. I know. You take too much and you risk overdosing. But 1/2 hour isn't enough time for the meds to kick in. Root canals are never fun, but you'll get through it. The worse part is over.
