This is really screwed. A pain like this is something that you can't explain to someone unless they've had it themselves.
Heat should help. Find a position that doesn't hurt as much the others that you've tried and do it. Even if it means that you have to be on the floor on your knees in front of a big footstool with the rest of you on the footstool and your head hanging over the edge. Try that.
Where are these 3 discs at?
When you go to bed take alot of pillows or couch cushions with you and try laying on your side with a couple of towles rolled up and put them under your neck.....so that your head stays in alignment with your spine. You may have to take a towel out or get a smaller towel or what ever. just so your head is comfy. You will know when it is right. Then bend your knees so that you are in the fetal position. Now put a pillow between your knees and see how much that helps. Try more pillows to see if you need more or less. Maybe a cushion would give you the support that would feel better.
For some people smoking pot helps the pain. I've tried it and it just made me a closet case. But if it helps then go for it.
Give him advil or whatever helps until you can get your brother into a Dr.
If it is really bad and it is totally driving him nutso, go to the emergency room and they should give you a shot in the butt that should have you feeling like there ain't a thing wrong in the world. But you really have to get him into a Dr. that will refer him to neurosurgeon so that you can get an MRI and convince the Drs. to give you some pain meds. And from the MRI they should be able to tell if you need to be operated on. It sure sounds like your brother really needs to just go under the knife and have it fixed as good as they can do.
I've had 3 operations. 2 on my lower back and 1 on my neck. The first one that they did I was shorter than my 3rd grade daughter when I went in and the day after I got up out of bed and was cuttin' a rug in the hospital room.
The second time it happened I got stuck underneath an RX7 tranny while under the car and had to wait for someone to help. When they did that one it was a sloppy freakin mess.
When they did my neck, they went in from the front to get to the back but at least my left arm doesn't feel like it's on fire from the bone marrow out now. But now my right arm does. Go figure.
I have a good Dr. that understands and I take really good pain meds that keep me sane.
He really really needs to go to the ER and get a shot in the butt and then make a DR.appt ASAP!
This kind of pain drives people crazy! Seriously.
THIS IS A GOOD SIGN TO GO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR! This could be very serious and also leads to excruciating pain. You dont want to wait, as this could mean he will have to get surgery later on.
