My dog bit me, should I see my doctor?!

Question: My dog was playing with one of her chew toys, when she dropped it on the floor. She walked over to me and bit me extremely hard on my leg. Then she went back over and picked her chew toy back up.

I looked at the bite on my leg, and it is very swollen and purple, and the area around the bite is all red and blotchy. I put a bandage and some ointment on it, but should I still go to my doctor and get it checked out, because my dog doesn't have Rabies shots yet?

Absolutely agree with the person who said NOT to cover the wound. Uncover it and keep it clean.

If the bite is that serious you need to see the doctor. Dog bites can get infected very easily. It is very important that you take care of it.

The doctor will be required by law to report the bite. Don't panic. It is pretty standard, happens a lot.

I'm assuming the dog doesn't have shots yet because it's a puppy? Be sure you get that taken care of straight away. And some obedience might be in order after this, too.

yes

I have gotten bit by my dogs many times when I was playing with them. I never saw the doctor over it and nothing ever happened. Unless the cut is deep, I probably wouldn't worry.
If you suspect your dog has been bitten by a wild animal there is a very small chance it could have rabies. I don't think I'm spelling right but a tetnous shot from the doctor should be given every ten years. When I cut myself on an old rusty piece of metal my doctor told me to get that. If you had one already, I wouldn't worry unless the swelling or rash doesn't go down in a day.

If it makes you feel better see your Doctor and dont keep a dog bite wound covered.
Good luck

i think you should coz your dog doesn't have shots yet. and its really dangerous coz your dog might have rabies so you might be affected by that too. you should go visit your doctor. oh and your vet too and let your dog take her shots. good luck with that. bless you. :]

yes yes yes. my daughter was bitten by our dog . first off with out rabies vac dog could be infected. second even if dog does not have rabies you need to be on antibotics due to infections. your dog needs to be quarintied to watch for signs of rabies so you will not have to get shots or will depending on the out come of your dog. dog should be monitored for 10 days and if he does not die, become ill or change behavior he probly doesnt have rabies. but you really need to see a dr so you dont get an infection some infections left unteated can become seriouse. and dog bites carry lots of bacteria you also need to keep it cleaned out and put neosporine on it. good luck

Go to the doctor NOW!

of course you have to see your doctor even your dog have anti rabies shots don't take a risk.
