I think I have a broken pinky toe....?!

Question: I stubbed my toe on a metal leg of a sofa and now it has a bump (probably bone) and it is twisted somewhat. My other toe does not look like this. Is it broken?

To be honest, the only way to know is by X-ray, but the good news is you can start measures to begin healing.

Ice and elevation are important. Do your best to not bear weight on that foot. The pinky helps assist us with balance. Wear open to shoes to prevent more compression and aggravation on the toe. The best splint is an anatomical splint....just like a finger, tape it to the neighboring toe. You want to tape it firm, but not so tight that it causes blood loss. Be careful taping if it is swollen. I would suggest using gauze or a thin covering of cotton between the tape and your skin.

A suggestion for icing if you don't have an ice pack, is to fill a bowl with ice and water...20 minutes ice, 20 minutes off ice. Stay away from heat for 72 hours.

If it doesn't get better, go see an orthopod. At times, injuries such as this have to be surgically repaired.

Good luck.

well it could be broken. the only way u will find out for sure is to go to the dr. to have it x-rayed. but if it is broke all they will do is tape it to the next toe. good luck hope your toe starts to feel better.

I would put ice on it and then see it you can put it in place. It may be broken and there is not much that can be done for a broken toe. You can set it yourself, but you d need to keep a watch on it for further infection. You can take Tylenol or ibuprofen to keep the pain at bay. Elevate it and tape it or wrap the entire foot with an ace bandage. Stay off from it as much as you can. I hope it heals well...but if you have any problems be sure to see your doctor

Unfortunately even if it is broken there is nothing you can do for it and I'd imagine that you would be hard-pressed to find a doctor that would either. Your pinky toe is essentially useless. The only toe injury that a doctor will take very seriously is a trauma to your big toe as that provides most of your balance. If you feel that you should see a doctor, then make the call. However, I would recommend alternating ice and heat on it and taking Motrin for the pain. If you feel like it needs additional support you can try taping it to the toe next to it for some added support or even dig out a pair of crutches and stay off of it for a few days.

ok not to be rude but i fell ur pain we are not dr well most of us and there is nothing they can do if u broke ur toe so go see a dr
