My daughter wakes up every night with knee pain. does anyone else have this prob!

Question: Her doctor can't find anything wrong with her and just tells me to give her motrin every night before she goes to bed. I thought motrin can cause stomach bleeding. I have tried everything. She is only 4 years old. If anyone has any advice I would love it. Thanks

I have 3 children and they have all gotten these pains around the age of 4-5. The body grows when it sleeps. These sound alot like what they call "growing pains". I know it sounds lame as a diagnosis but your doctor is probably referring to these. Motrin thins the blood and in excessive amounts and years of consistant use can cause ulcers (some are more prone to it then others) but its not overly common to get these with general use for pain treatment. If you dont want to use motrin, you can use tylenol it is a pain reliever as well. Growing pains can be extremely painful for children. My son had a very tough time with it and he is getting pretty tall now. Talk to your ped. to see when children typically have their growth spirts and you might find a reoccuring pain around the same general times. If it still persists for over a week or so I would take her back and let the doctor know. Growth spirts typically last a few days but can last up to a week or so.

My youngest was diagnosed with Failure to thrive, and an x ray was given to her to see if she was growing. An interesting thing about bones. They are very much like trees. If the body is trying to grow and is not getting enough nutrition it will show signs of rings around the bones. Scary but interesting.

Good luck.

It sounds like you need to take her to a specialist..Get a second opinion. That poor little thing

I wouldnt over medicate her. It may just be growing pains, but I would get a second opinion.
