Anoying ankle injury?!

Question: The area surrounding the ball joint on the inside of my left ankle hurts when weight bearing like running. It is not a bone problems as everything is ok there but possibly something else.
I have no problem walking & would like to play soccer but find excessive weight bearing from running really agrivates it.
Help anyone........

If the pain is located under the malleolus which is what I think you are referring to as the "ball joint, then it could be a problem with your flexor tendons. These are the muscles that branch off from the longer leg and attach at the underside of your foot. If it feels more internal you could have done some damage to the fascia (tissue that holds the tissues between the tibia and fibula secure). Those types of injuries take a while to heal and can be very painful, causing the bones to feel like they are separating around the ankle complex.

Try using an ace wrap to offer some extra support. Also, gel pads to act as a cushion may help to off set the shock/pounding feeling of running. If you want to invest in a brace that has plastic reinforcements on the lateral and medial sides of your ankle, that may help too.

If it's ligament related, all these things will also help.

Try strengthening all the muscles around your ankle. Trace the Alphabet with your foot 3x a day.

And don't forget, ice after any form of physical activity!
