How long after Appendix Surgery.......?!

Question: Okay well i just got home from the hospital after having my appendix taken out. The doctor said it was the biggest one he ever saw. The question i have know is how long should i wait untill i start with more physical activities. Obviously not now since i can barely walk but when would be a good time. I asked my doctor and he said maybe in 2 weeks but he didnt really give me a definite answer. I had been working out every day after school for football but i know i cant anymore. I just want to be able to do something that will keep me in shape and I dont want to loose alot of the muscle i have worked so hard to gain. So does anybody have any suggestions for what I can do that will keep me in shape and cause no pain,

It usually takes 4-6 weeks to heal internally. The inside of the body stays moist and warm and takes longer to heal than the outside.

Here is a site with about 8 pages of information on appendectomy surgery. Why it happens , what to watch for after surgery, all that stuff. Happy reading and dont get to anxious to over due it. It would be much better to wait then cause injury and have to wait twice as long.

I had my appendix out in 2000 and I remember that I had to wait 4 weeks before any heavy lifting. It took a couple of weeks to walk normally again so I don't think I could really do anything prior to that, but every body is different and you may heal faster than me.

Just ask at your next checkup when you can start your activities. Best of luck and speedy recovery!

LISTEN TO DR.THAT IS WHY THEY GET THE BIG BUCKS.YOU CAN DO LIGHT EXERCISE LIKE LEG LIFTS AND BENDS IN THE BED,AND YOU CAN WALK.BUT REMEMBER IF IT HURTS DON'T DO IT!!1

My doc told me not to lift anything heavier than 20 pounds for the next six weeks. It takes a while for the scar tissue to become strong enough to resist ripping apart. No one knows the exact time. Better longer than shorter. Start your exercise regimen gradually. Resuming too soon brings you grief.
