Temporary stitches??!

Question: What are the things called that people put on when they can't get stitches right away? They are sticky and white and it holds the skin together so it can heal. Also, can these be used instead of stitches if the cut isn't too severe?

Shallow cuts that don't go down into the subcutaneous tissues or muscle, and are not too long, can be closed with STERI-STRIPS. They are white, semi-transparent. An adhesive is applied to either side of the cut, the wound edges are pushed together, and the steri-strips are applied. This is done to avoid the pain of the anesthetic injection and the stitches. Also, on places like the face where stitches might cause additional scarring. If the wound is deep and/or long, jagged or otherwise angled, then sutures are the better choice. The sutures can be partially removed early and supplemented with the steri-strips later to reduce scarring.
