Why am I so tired and hungry all the time?!


Question: I'm 15, 5'7" 115 lbs. I've always been the big eater in the family. Along with my brother. But we are very skinny-fast metabolism. Well that went away, but I still graze. It's a healthy way to eat-I eat all the time. But now I've been hungry a lot. I ate a bagel and I know thats not a lot and its just carbs, but usually that holds me over until lunch. About 15 minutes after I ate the bagel, my stomach was growling again. By lunch I was starving. I ate a big lunch. And now I'm starting to get hungry and its only been a couple hours. And usually after lunch I get hungry less than 2 hours later.

I'm also really tired. I almost always fall asleep everyday in my 4th/5th hours, not because I'm bored, but because I'm that tired. I went to bed at 8:30pm, woke up at 5:45-6am and right now I am exhausted. AND I took a nap yesterday too. I've never taken naps, but now I am.

So why am I randomly hungry and extremely tired? And I DO eat pretty healthy all the time and I've been drinking more H2O.

First off, if it keeps troubling you don't be afraid to visit a doctor.

Secondly; are you eating the right things? There is more to food than just carbs; especially the carb (refined) sugar! When you eat a lot of refined sugar, your body produces insulin to reduce the sugar (or better: glucose) in your blood. When this happens your blood sugar level can drop too low and you get hungry again. Eating complex carbs with lots of fibre as found in whole-grain bread and whole-grain cereals can fill you up longer than white bread and bagels with too much sugar.

Also your body might be asking for different nutrients.You may need a lot of protein too. They may even make you feel more full. Eat/drink some protein rich food such as milk, yoghurt, cheese and meat, but watch the amount of fat a bit.

Also nothing wrong with eating 5-6 times a day as long as you don't overdo the amount of food and eat foods that are not high in sugar, and don't contain too much (saturated) fat.

You may have an iron deficiency. Either that or your body just needs more food because you're about to hit a growth spurt. Go to the doc, get your blood drawn and they'll tell you if you have low blood iron.

Sounds like you are going through a growth spurt. Just make sure you get extra rest and eat healthy. You'll be fine. You should also go see your health care provider and maybe he/she can rule out Mono??? or run some bloodwork?

I feel the same way with food. You just have to gain control of yourself. Same way with being tired. You are a teenager and for some reason that is the answer for most adults. If it doesn't pass you may want to get a physician's advice.

Haha I'm having the same thing, I'm hungry ALL THE TIME. I get home from 6Th form and my mum cooks me a meal, and I'm starving straight after the meal. it sucks because i cant always find stuff to eat :P
I'm also tired constantly, but i do wake up at 6 in the morning :S so that's probably why I'm tired.
But yeah sounds like me maaan, i wake up and I'm tired the rest of the day... i think I'm meant to be nocturnal :)

you could be diabetic...check with your dr....these are symptoms...extreme hunger...fatigue and tiredness...urinating alot....very thirsty...shakiness...irritable or cranky
