Really tired in the morning?!

Question: I'm 12, and i seem to be really tired in the morning. My parents have to drag me up every morning because i just can't get up and i get really tired at school. During the week, I usually go to bed some time from 9-11, but i don't know when I fall asleep, it sometimes takes a long time. I wake up at 6:30-7:00 for school. What's wrong?

I'm 52 and have always been a night owl. It's difficult for me to go to bed early, because I'm not ready to sleep, and I'm not usually able to fall asleep when I do try to turn in earlier. In the morning I drag myself through the first couple of hours because I need to be up by about 6:30 to get to work. I don't really LIKE being a night owl, but it doesn't really seem to be a matter of choice.

That being said, it sure wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor about your sleep patterns. It would be worth finding out if there is also something medical contributing to your tiredness. Good luck!

At that age your body needs extra sleep to function properly, although schools start at about 8, so it makes geting over 8 hours almost impossible. simply try going to sleep earlier

Try getting to bed at 9:30, or you can try coffee. If you think coffee is gross, you can buy starbucks vanilla syrup. Make lattes and if you add enough syrup it's quite tasty. Try to get a taste for it though, because that vanilla syrup is like 8 bucks a bottle
