How can you know how severe a burn is?!

Question: I burned my middle finger around the top and around my nail and the side of my ring finger. While I was cooking, hot grease popped up and went all over my finger at the top! The pain was so severe for two hours! I ran it with cold water for ten minutes and then just tried to deal with the pain. Anyway, one of the fingers is worse and turned white and then grayish and is red around the whitish area. The pain is mostly gone now and when I touch the whitish/grayish area, I can't feel it-it feels numb. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

the area with the white/gray area sounds like 2nd or even 3rd degree. If its a relatively small area, there is nothing really to do about it anyway but to keep it clean and protected with a light bandage. With any break in the skin, your concern is with infection. If it begins to look infected, go to the doc.

if your finger really is numb, this is a third degree burn, which is worse than a second degree burn. In a second degree burn, you feel the most pain, but in a third degree burn your nerves are damaged.

You should see a doctor because you most likely need some sort of aspiration done to the wound, along with some dressings.

im thinking maybe 1st degree there. 3rd degree you wouldnt feel it at all because it kills your nerves and 2nd seems to have a big bubble. go to google and do a search under images and see what your looks like

You need to see a doctor since this a a third degree burn. First degree burn is like a sun burn, second degree is when you get a blister, third degree is what you described, tissue damage.

It sounds like a 2nd degree burn with nerve damage. You should have a doctor look at that. You don't want an infection or permanent damage

i don't think if is something really bad like so bad it needs to be cut off but you should really see a doctor.

From what you described... sounds like it's a severe second degree burn. It's not a third degree burn because third degree burns are open... and you shouldn't have put cold water on it... you should have put lukewarm water on it cause cold water can damage the nerves even more. The color change/ numbness is normal. Just look up treating a second degree burn and follow the directions.

I have prayed for you Jennifer. I trust you will see a doctor as well.
