Good for you - a girl in wood shop!

Because all the surface tissue was removed, there was nothing to suture. So they had to let the wound fill in from the bottom. Three weeks seems about right. Keep it clean. If it gets infected, that will delay the healing. After it heals, you will have to do some flexibility exercises to keep your finger from stiffening up, Take your time and loosen it up gradually

Ow!

3 weeks is about right, especially for a cut that deep.

Feel better.

I'm surprised they wouldn't stitch something that deep. I cut myself with a french knife, which was probably about 1/8 of an inch deep, and it took several weeks to heal. I didn't wrap it or do anything to hold the skin together, though. It was between my third and fourth finger, so it did occassionally pull apart with movement. Good luck. The most important thing is to make sure it doesn't get infected.
