Can I take off a cast on foot myself?!

Question: I broke 5th metatarsal bone and was diagnosed as a mild spiral fracture. Doctor put a plaster cast on foot and told me that after 3 weeks the cast can be removed and I won't have any problem with walking but will have to wait for another month to start exercising safely. It's been quite more than three weeks already but I have no way to see the doctor since I'm away in college. Is it ok if I take off the cast by myself? If yes, what's the safest way to do it?

Usually after 3-4 weeks a spiral fx. in a metatarsal will start healing naturally....no don't take off the cast yet, wait an additional 1-2 weeks. If you can bear weight on it and have no pain it's healing properly. If pain with weight bearing, leave it on. A posterior splint, 1/2 cast underneath will also support your fxs. Good Luck! PS: Don't mess around with your foot...see an MD.

go to a local er they will contact your dr and take the cast off

dont take off ur cast... there has to be a doc at college that can safely take off ur cast for u...

even if u have to go to the ER and have them remove it for u

you need to find away to see a doctor
if you take it off they might want you in a walking cast

I need to tell you to go to a local Dr. around the college but if you want it off now you need to get soaking it my arm cast and leg cast fell off after falling of the pier at the Lake. It took me a while to get it off completely. Like I fell in and it started to unravel so I set there messing with it until I got it all off but It was to early for me I need to keep it on eight weeks on my leg and six on my arm and this happen at like five weeks. So I had the cast redone for four more weeks on my leg and arm.
