Wrist hurts, can't do push-ups. Help!?!

Question: I used to be in the Army for 4 years. During AIT I fractured my wrist playing basketball. Okay, anyway so it healed, and I didn't have any problems out of it except some soreness every now and then, and it ache when it rained sometimes.

My injury was in 2001, everything was fine, I got out of the Army in 2005. Of course I wasn't as active, had two kids, and now I'm trying to get back into shape. My wrist hurts like hell whenever I try to do push-up, dips, things that cause me to put pressure on it. It doesn't hurt any other time. I can do anything else, except put weight on it. I can bend it in any direction without pain, but pressure does it.

Could it be that I re-injured it? Or, that it's been a while since I've used it?? With what I've described, what can be done? I'm re-enlisting in the Army when I finish college next Summer, so it's really important that I get this taken care of. Push-ups are very important, and required for PT tests. I don't want this holding me back.

Lots of people have this problem - it's probably because of the angle that you put your wrist at when you do push ups with your palms flat on the ground. Try doing push ups on your knuckles - this way your wrist is in its strongest position. Hopefully they let you do this in the army!

The pain is probably just a left over from your injury. Unfortunately this is just one of those things - you will probably always have a bit of a weakness there.

Can you go to a gym to do weights? That way you can do exercises which will get you stronger, but won't require you to put pressure on your wrist in that awkward way. Using dumbbells will strengthen your wrist along with your other muscles.

Good luck, and good on you for getting back into shape xx

how did u get it to heal? did you wear a cast? or did you wait a while to get it treated by a doctor? because sometimes if u leave a fracture or broken bone without treatment for too long it will have trouble healing or it wont grow back properly find some oils or lotions to massage it i reccemend you get some medicine like advil or tylenol and if that doesnt work then come back to a doctor and get it x rayed to see if there is still damage. i hope this helps.
