Medication overuse headache?? help! Any Doctors or Nurses who can advise?!

Question: Ive had a headache now for A WEEK. its at the top of my head, it feels tight, there have been periods when it has been stabbing behind my eye. i do get the once a month period migraine that no pill can take away. i also have terrible vertigo with this headache. i close my eyes my head spins, watching tv, head spins. its very disconcerting. i dont believe i have an ear infection.

i think its medication related, i take tramadol 25mg most days to combat the pain of bursitis and also 2.5mg of sleeping tablets to help me sleep on most nights. this last few days i am desperate and have tried alternating between paracetamol / ibuprofen with low dose of codeine to combat this headache. NOTHING works.

tonight ive bitten the bullet and taken 100mg of tramadol and an hour ago aspirin with low dose of codeine. my head hurts so much!

if it is overuse of medication, i stop the medication i know. but will this headache go away? how long? could it be something more serious?

It sounds like you have done everything you can at home. You are already taking multiple pain medications. With point tenderness over you sinuses it sounds as if you may be having sinus headaches, but without a proper medical screening I can't be sure. Since this has gone on for a week you should consider visiting your doctor about this problem.

Wow, we have something in common. Let me ask YOU a question, Before you had your FIRST period, did you have a migraine? Because if you did, that migraine will go on for years, and I don't think there's a cure for this. But I know that Stigmatism also causes Migraine, which may be solved by visiting your local eye doctor to maybe patch you up with glasses. Best of Luck!

PS

Once you have signs of migraine, such as blind spots, YOU CAN NEVER STOP IT from happening even if you take Advil, it will all be too late. Just prevent or lessen your intake of Citrus foods, and chocolate, also, prevent too much light by wearing UV protected shades.

Well young lady, you need to go to a site like Web MD or Medline Plus and check out the side effects of the medicines you are taking. I believe your headaches to be coming from Tramadol, and your taking 100 mg and an aspirin with low doze of codeine. I am not a Doctor or Nurse, but I have a lot of information in my head from the many medications that my wife takes. I'm a man and don't know much about period headaches, but I do know that my Granddaughter, during her periods and pains, goes to a Chiropractor and there is a maneuver he performs and when she leaves, she feels great. You say you have had this headache for a week, and that would coincide with the sinus's. I must admit that there are a lot of reasons, but I would put my money on it that the problem is you are taking to many pain pills, and if you don't watch it, you may put yourself into an overdoze. And I don't know how old you are, but with the bursitis you say you have, why don't you have that pain relieved by having an injection into that shoulder. I don't know why your Doctor is prescribing all these pain pills, but if I were you, I would go to a female Doctor who would be more aware of those female problems you are having, and I bet the first thing she would do is take you off the Tramadol. You said it yourself, you think it is medication related and I vote with you. I believe more in natural treatments, because the medicines today have too many side effects. If your head hurts now, try this pressure point procedure for headaches, leg cramps etc. Take the thumb and index finger of your right hand and sqeeze or apply pressure to the web of the left hand, and if it jurts, keep sqeezing that spot on and off until the hurt lessens. If the left hand doesn't hurt when you sqeeze it, try the right hand web(Are between thumb and index finger) using your left hand thumb and finger. Remember, if it hurts, keep applying the on and off pressure until the hurt lessens. Also point moist heat on the forehead wherever it hurts. Just take a wash cloth, soak it with hot water, ring it out and apply the cloth where the hurt is. Do this several times and it will feel better. I feel so sorry you are in so much pain, and I hope for you the best to find the right thing to do, and what is causing those headaches.
