Is it OK to wait? Or should i go to the emergency room?!

Question: I got a hernia about 3 days ago but dident find out I had one untill today (girlfriends mother is a doctor an i asked her about the pain i was experiancing)
The hernia is in my stomach right behind my belly button. Its currently saterday night at 10:30pm were i live. Do you think i can make it to monday morning when i can see my reg. doctor? Or do you think i should go to the ER tonight or tommarow morning?
My pain is about a 6.5 on a scale of 1-10
10 being the worst.
It hurts worst if i have sex, cough, sneeze, poop, or walk up stairs.

Please give me your honest opinion, I'm not worried about the pain factor, i can handle the pain. Im worring about causing perminate damage that could possibly be fatal.

you should actually go to the ER if you can make it there, mainly because if its an organ in your abdomen thats causing the hernia to actually bulge, you could cause that organ to fail due to prolonged constraint. It might take a few days for that though, if only a tissue/ muscle has protruded.
this isn't a professional opinion, but if the area is strained further it could probably get worse.

Even if you go to your regular doctor on Monday, chances are that you probably need surgery to fix this hernia problem of yours. (my brother had one once and had to have surgery) Anyway, you seem like your in pain and it has been going on for a couple days now. Go to the ER.

you need to go to the ER.
especially if the pain is bothering you that much...and hernias need to be fixed!
dont wait for your regular doctor, you need to get that fixed now. you cant wait for an appointment!

if the pain is that severe and worsens during normal everyday acts then I would suggest going now. If you wait your hernia could rupture, that would be very bad.

take care of yourself

You need to go to the doctor. Hernias can become extremely painful the longer you wait and can lead to further medical problems.

I was born with a hernia and didn't have surgery until I was 6 months old. The surgery that you need will be scheduled so no need to go the the ER. See your doctor Monday. Avoid lifting and other things that cause pain.

Hernias should not cause permanent damage. Most likely you will just have to live with it depending on what type of hernia it is. However it could rupture. The pain can be caused by something else. As long as you can stand the pain and do not have a fever, go see your doctor on monday. However , if you feel worried its best to go to the ER and have a doctor look at you then go another day worrying about it.
Good Luck

Don't do the things that hurt. Well, the ones you don't have to do at least. Call the ER and speak to them. Put a call in to your regular Dr.s service. Call his regular office number and his service will be notified. He will call you back and tell you what to do after you explain to him what's up.

It depends on if it is strangulated or not. 6.5 on the pain scale is pretty bad... You really should get it checked out at the ER to be safe....

You have an umbilical hernia. If your girlfriends mother is a doctor...ask her if you should go. But, in the meantime...refrain from any physically strenuous activity until to you have been seen by a professional medical doctor. By all means go to the e.r. if you have any doubts.
