Can I transfer my medical records from my doctor to my new doctor?!

Question: while on a doctor's appointment in the examining room I told the nurse I was moving and I will want all my medical records to be transferred to my new doctor where Im moving. The nurse told me they are allowed to only transfer their medical records and nothing from any labs or any other facilities names on any records are allowed to be transferred to my new doctor. Not even other reports where my old doctor sent me out to get mri's done at. I told her I think this is crazy she said sorry you have to get in touch with every place. I then told her I want to look at my chart to get the name of every place so i can get documentations she said she doesnt have time for me. Im disabled. And my chart is quite thick. I find this appauling and not very helpful and unprofessional. usually the whole chart is forwarded to the new doctor whose has taken my rights away?

yes u can

you sure can...just talk to the new dr's office person and she will advise you

YES YOU CAN, OK TERRIFIC.

They will have to send your new doctor the medical information. All you have to do is set up an appointment with the new doctor and tell the new doctor the information of the old doctor and they will contact the old doctor to get the information they need.

Transfer case to new efficiant Doc AND YOU MUST BRIEF EVERY THING TO HIM' TELL HIM IF NEED BE GET A NEW KNEE?

Being married to a nurse, I can understand the nurses response. Nurses don't have the time to deal with the paperwork, It's the office staff's job to keep up with the paperwork. Now, you should be able to go to the receptionist's desk and do 1 of 2 things. If you know who the new doctor is, they can sometimes forward everything to the new dr. Or they will sign over the file to you and allow you to carry it to the new dr. Either way it is your RIGHT to those records. Your best bet would be to go when the office opens when the staff is not busy. It's also true that any information at another specialist you need to go and have transfered. Your Dr. will have in the chart that you had an MRI, but the MRI photo stays in a file at the office/hospital that performed the MRI. Same with xrays, labs.
