Shin pain..but NOT SHIN SPLINTS!?!

Question: okay for the past 3 months i have had like an aching sharp pain on the inside of my shins...like on the very edge of the bone. it hurts to go up and down the stairs and to jump and run. I play soccer and i told my friend about it and she was like its just shin splints stop being a baby. but i know its not shin splints cause i know what those feel like and its nothing compared to this. so if you tell me its shin splints im gunna report you haha.....also some other stuff i noticed:

-it hurts realllllllly bad to touch it or rub the very edge of the bone.
-during a soccer game it hurts when im warming up..but during the game i can do a fullfield sprint and it'll hurt but not as bad...but after i do a sprint and im just standing there..it feels they start shaking and i can't stand on em.
-it we didn't have practice for about a week. and it went away..but then i went to practice and it was back. (i can't sit out though..state cup is next weekend)
-yesterday i was walking and i hit ....

I am an athletic trainer and I've seen athletes complain about shin pain a lot.

There are couple other things that can cause pain in the anterior part of your shin other than the shin splints: compartment syndrome and stress fracture or muscle strain/tear on the medial side of tibia (toward the mid-line of your body).

BTW, Shin splints is a general term that describes inflammation of muscle and connective tissue along the inside of the tibia.

Try stretching your calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus muscles) The calf muscles are what they call, "antagonists" opposing the action of the muscle that is causing pain (tibialis anterior i'm assuming). By stretching the antagonist, the pressure on the tibia muscle will be alleviated.

Do not try to dorsiflex your ankle (flexing foot so that it points up toward the sky) and try getting your shin taped (shin splints taping) by your trainer.

If pain persists or increase, you should go see a doctor. The key is to progressively warm up or use the muscle. Don't start running at full speed right away, but start walking, fast walk, jog, than sprint and so

good luck
