Rheumatoid arthritis is the genetic tendancy type...if you mom has it...you might be well served to get the blood work to have it determined. The longer it goes the more damage there will be.

After ruling that out, you likely just need better muscle conditioning as you sound like a thin gurl. If rheumatoid is ruled out and you do in fact have good muscle tone...I'd reccomend you see a chiropractor as pelvic misalignment can aggravate both you back and your knees.

As far as a 17 year old have osteoarthritis...the "wear and tear" type...I doubt that it would be evident on x-ray so early in your life. Typically the instability (weak muscles and/or poor bone alignment) over a period of time begins to change the joints in a way that may be seen on x-ray.

as far as the elbow pain...I would again assume you have small arms and the stress from swimming is aggravateing them...soreness does not equal osteo-arthritis.

good luck.

I would go to an orthopedic doctor. I'm sure your mom sees one for her arthritis. (I hope anyways). As the other answerer stated a chiropractor is okay, but if it is something more severe it could mess with it or even make it worse.

Dear pv_grl:

you need to know what doctor?

rheumatoid doctor
rheumatologist

there are blood tests to see if you have any kind of "auto-immune" disease

last i knew, there were 79 auto-immune diseases that mimicked rheumatoid arthritis.

then, there is juvenile arthritis.

it's all too much for my little brain.

but, i think i'm heading you in the right direction.

keep in mind that physical therapists are NOT doctors and sometimes they think they know everything.

keep in mind that NO ONE KNOWS EVERYTHING, as much as they would like to profess they do.

you have some questionable family history that needs investigated. can you find out what your mother had?

tendonitis and patellal subluxation: THROW OUT WHAT THEY ARE TELLING YOU.

seek advice from a professional that can back up findings with BLOODWORK. the blood tells it all.

keep corresponding. i'm just here to help in my small way.
