Skin isn't just the layer you see on the surface. Skin is a multilayered organ, with each layer having a separate function in its overall processes. Yes: The skin is an organ, in fact, the body's largest organ. Why do we treat it so badly?

A sunburn damages the top layer, for sure, and that's what you see. The top layer comprises the oldest cells in your skin, and these will die off and slough off and allow newer cells from below to be exposed next. It's a continuous process. People who answer here that "oh, it will get better" are saying that their genetics have been able to handle the negative affects of the sun, but that doesn't mean YOURS will be able to. Everyone's ability to handle it is different. The truth is that NOBODY knows the limits of their skin's ability to recover until the time it DOESN'T recover.

The newer cells that come from the layers you don't see can be damaged by the sun's radiation. The damage is to the cell's DNA, and certainly you can see the results, esp. over time, if there is damage. Damage can actually take the form of dark spots (melanin) becoming permanently fixed on the surface of your skin. It's your skin's attempt to protect the DNA by "tanning" to keep the radiation from reaching the underlying renewal system of the skin. "Tanning" can go awry depending on your genetics, and dark spots and blotches can become fairly permanent. If this wasn't the case, why would so many people be running to the dematologists and buying over the counter peeling products (alpha hydroxy acids) and dermabrasion systems in an attempt to speed up their skin's renewal process?

So, tanning isn't healthy, no matter how much we like the look, burning is seriously disasterous in terms of the skin's health, and even just daily sun exposure will damage the skin over time. If daily exposure and over-exposure to the sun doesn't create unwanted permanent dark spots, it will eventually cause small skin cancers--guaranteed--which will have to be removed. When you start to get these, you suddenly will get a LOT of them, and they will keep coming for the rest of your natural life. Even the slow growing ones are not attractive. The fast growing ones will kill you. Your genetics will determine which ones YOU will get and when. They are the result of years of abuse to the skin from sun exposure.

You will have to wait it out now, to see what your body is able to do to renew the skin's surface from this sunburn. You will also be waiting it out to see what damage this and other sunburns/sun exposure have done and will not show until you're a little older, because some permanent damage has been done by this sunburn. Guaranteed.

If your skin is brownish anyway, why don't you just use a sunscreen so you will keep your lovely dark complexion healthy throughout your life?

yes although you may get sskin cancer when ur badly burnt and i mean badly

i ben burnet for 9 days ago and my origional skin no comes back yet. since i got sunburned.

yeah it will for a while. but it will eventually turn back to normal!

It eventually does.. it doesnt just automatically COME..
it takes time.. be patient!

it should unless it a very serious burn.. ur skin should come back in no time =)

You get new skin... Why the hell do you think it peels.

Whenever you even rub your skin, skin cells come off.

It will replace itself with new skin of roughly the same color or slightly darker. Just wait for it to come off and don't pick at it.

you should probably get checked out for skin cancer b/c it happens alot when your exposed to the sun for to long or you might get sun shots or it will just go away

once the tan fades your natural color will come back!
no worries!

yes eventually it will comeback to your original skins. but it takes a week for sure

your skin constantly sheds off old layers and makes new ones. and it usually takes about a week to notice a burn or tan to peel away. give it some time and you will be back to normal i promise.

yes, eventually the brown part will peel away. Be careful, though, even if you are a dark skinned person, you can still get skin cancer.. Use a sunblock moisterizer (yes, even if you're a guy) b/c you will end up looking like a 20-something 40 year old if you do this everyday!

if its serious sun burn the skin on your forehead will mostly likely start to blister soon and then peel off, it will hurt then just itch a lot for a couple days, but you should have your normal skin back in about a week and a half

You sound like a girl. You are overly concerned about your appearance. You are living proof that society has become feminized. Do you dye your hair and paint your fingernails too?

Original skin never really comes back because it peels off and is dead as for color and texture it is a bit different, a little darker and a bit tougher.

If you stay out of the sun ...eventually your original color will return.

No, that skin peels away. You grow new skin. Moisturize it and use sunscreen. The burn will fade in time and your natural skin will grow back. It may take weeks for your skin to heal completely depending on the burn severity. You will have to waiit this out. You could use makeup to cover the burn, but it's best to let the air get to it. You will just have to wait.
