How come bidets haven't become more popular in America?!

Question: For some unknown reason, people in the states think that using paper is as efficient and hygienic as water...of course not....when you wipe you don't get 100% of fecal matter-- duh! The people in Japan and other countries must think we are big time slobs...yuck [I always try to shower after a bowel movement if possible]

whats a bidet??

What is that?

I totally agree! We live in Australia and have just ordered 3 bidets for our house off of ebay LOL :) we went to Japan and used them for two weeks straight and now we cant live without them! :)

EDIT: Ummmm whoever is down there saying that they are illegal because of health standards - you dont know what you're talking about? The water that sprays up comes from a totally different pipe far away from anything you've done in the toilet???

I don't know but they should! My Italian grandparents had one.

Sooo clean :P

most of the world thinks of those as a 3rd world poor people thing

.. if u talking about the ciggarettes

Who wants a stream of water up their keister?

How do you dry off? With a towel? EWWW!!! Nasty!

And does it really clean you better than wiping?

There are 2 types of bidets:

The 1st kind (Japanese kind) is illegal due to our health standards. Basically once something is in the toilet it can't come out, and that includes water.

The 2nd kind (Indian/Middle-Eastern kind) is just gross (they require a 'helping hand' -- you reach down to splash yourself and wash youself up by hand).

Because toilet paper is too popular in America!

well, we generally wipe with toilet paper after using the toilet. And most americans shower every day or every other day.

Other than that, i have no other guesses. Most of us haven't heard of it or know how to use one, so there is really no demand.

Because it would negatively impact the profits of the big paper corporations.
